In Cao Yu's The Wilderness, escaped prisoner Qiu Hu returns to settle an old grievance, only to discover that the man he blames is dead and his former lover, Jinzi, has married that man's son. Revenge becomes entangled with desire, loyalty, and guilt. As the lovers seek a way out, the surrounding wilderness becomes a landscape of fear and haunting memories. Jia Yiping directs this Mandarin-language production.
