WHO I AM/WHO AM I
From Ningbo, Zhejiang, China, a small town near Shanghai. My parents sent me to a boarding school in Canada when I was thirteen. I grew up thinking I would become an architect or engineer. I enjoy building things from scratch and am always curious about the internal structures of things and how they function. I found a delicate balance between art and craft and am deeply fascinated.
Later, I encountered a touring production of Beauty and The Beast in Vancouver. Everything about that production fulfills my imagination. Inexplicably, I felt a profound connection to the theatre world through this musical. I stood in front of that iconic moon for an extended period, and that moon still appeared in my dreams.
After completing my undergraduate studies in Canada, I worked as an electrician for the same show that had left a lasting impact on me. I observed how professionals on Broadway work, and everything fascinated me. I realized my choice and lack of not only experience but knowledge. Consequently, I decided to pursue graduate studies in lighting design.
Today, this has become my profession, and I take great pleasure in collaborating with other talented artists. I am a theatre collaborator and lighting designer. I find joy in designing, and witnessing the culmination of everyone's efforts is a source of great satisfaction. It's not just theatre magic; it's the magic of collaboration.
